Tornatore

Tornatore

The Sicily region still holds the largest share of vineyard area, with 101,000 hectares planted with wine grapes. Boasting the oldest winemaking tradition of the entire peninsula.

Many island farms, including the Tornatore family since 1865, hold historical records of tradition and production of native red grapes: Nerello Mascalese and Nero Cappuccio and white grapes: Carricante and Catarratto, grapes strictly hand-picked. We are in the presence of a particularly difficult territory, we dare to call it "extreme". The Tornatore Company falls in the territories of the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia on the northern slope of Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. So volcanic soils, formed on the spot and always subject to continuous metamorphosis during the eruptive manifestations of Etna. Ashes deposits dispersed in the air and gradually settle on the surrounding areas for hundreds of square kilometers and temperatures that are influenced by the mountain ranges of the Nebrodi mountains. La Maison Tornatore has donated the land and made it ideal for the production of its unique wines. The company has 100 ha of land partly owned and part directly controlled by a company. Vineyard-grown lands within the Doc Etna area and which make up the largest Etna DOC vineyard in the production area. Interested in different districts: Pietrarizzo, Pietramarina, Trimarchisa, Torre Guarino, Casà, Carranco and Malpasso, all in the town of Castiglione di Sicilia, and give rise to six labels divided into Etna Rosso, Etna Bianco and Rosato.
